Ah the sheer bliss of the Allen Collins/Garry Rossington combo! Phew. But then are the Skynrd remembered mostly as the band, or simply the track?

Comparison: came across this one a few days ago (almost did, too)...do it loud....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mHdbknoNrY

Ok, so Sammy sadly no longer has the 'clout', but with Don Felder at the helm, who gives a fuck? Not bad for 70 year-olds, eh?

Though according to the title on the thread, (and especially live) where does one begin? Try these:

"Surely the Beatles has to be up there with the best "

Oh! You mean the first Boy Band? Possibly the single biggest marketing ploy in the history of the world, and yes, for a couple of months, Love Me Do and Please Please Me, I was suckered in. Then The Rolling Stones came into view, and that was it .... love 'em to bits, even now. However, my favourite band of all time, if I had to choose just one, would be Cream. Ginger Baker, universally recognised as a fabulous drummer, Jack Bruce, power bassist and singer/writer of much good stuff, and of course, Clapton ...... before he got pretentious and carried away with his own hype ....

Actually, the Rolling Stones were a much bigger marketing ploy than the Beatles ever were. They were presented as anti- establishment bad boys, whereas they were actually quite posh. Jagger being the biggest social climbing snob in rock history. They did some decent stuff in the sixties, once the Beatles had given them a helping hand, but were never leaders, just followers of previous styles or whatever was popular at the time. Can't stand Jagger now as he mingles with the elite and tries to pretend he is cultured.

The Stones, not just for the diversity of their back catalogue but because they are pioneering oldie rock! Love em or hate em they are a worldwide phenomenon loved by potentially billions. None of us would have believed men in their 70s could be so mainstream. They are pushing the age envelope for all of us.

I saw queen in the 70's and they were raw and awesome. Mercury never camped it up on stage like Adam Lambert does he's turned it into a burlesque show. Theatrical yes, but camp no. Queen's management always tried to keep FM away from recorded interviews because his speaking voice was so camp and they didn't think it fitted the rock band image.

All the kitsch rewrite came after his death like a Russian rewrite of history.
